The Society for Conservation Biology Oceania Section has over 500 members from around our region and across the globe. Together, our community of conservation professionals is working to advance the science and practice of conserving the Earth’s biological diversity.

Conservation and development policies significantly impact the long-term sustainability of biodiversity and natural resources. SCBO seeks to ensure that policies at local, regional, national, and international levels are informed by the best available scientific evidence.

Earth Optimism

Given the numerous environmental crises our planet is facing, it can sometimes be hard to maintain the positive outlook needed to continue working to find solutions. Earth Optimism is a global initiative that aims to bring people together to inspire and energise further environmental action by celebrating successes.

Society for Conservation Biology Oceania and local SCBO chapters have been running Earth Optimism events since 2021, often in partnership with other organisations. Below are the details of past and upcoming events:

Conferences

The SCB Oceania Section hosts regional conferences every two years, with the conference location rotating between Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
